Job Title: Social Worker Coordinator


 


Location: Teacher Administration Center (TAC), 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha NE


 


Reports To: Chief Officer, Student and Community Services 


 


Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 duty days, 12-month / Exempt


 


Salary Schedule: Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA) Level 8 Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.  Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable summary document.


 


Anticipated Start Date:  No later than September 1, 2025 / prefer the towards the end of August to provide transition time with the outgoing staff member. 


 


Position Purpose: Provides strategic leadership and clinical oversight of comprehensive school social work services for Pre-K through 12th grade students. Responsibilities include supervising and coaching school social workers, supporting evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, and promoting social-emotional learning and equitable student outcomes. The coordinator leads professional development, ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards, and fosters effective collaboration with school leaders, families, and community partners. The coordinator supports and serves as a member of the Supportive Response Team.  


 


Essential Performance Responsibilities:



  • Provide leadership, clinical supervision, and ongoing consultation to school social workers to support effective, ethical, and equitable service delivery. 

  • Assist school social workers in setting and achieving professional goals aligned with district priorities and evidence-based best practices. 

  • Guide staff in the assessment, intervention, and evaluation of student services, ensuring alignment with a Multi-Tiered System of Supports for behavior (MTSS-B) and trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches. 

  • Evaluate and co-evaluate school social workers; support school administrators in conducting performance appraisals and providing targeted feedback. 

  • Design and deliver professional development opportunities, including CEU-eligible trainings, onboarding programs, and reflective practice groups to build staff capacity and support licensure renewal. To include threat assessments, attendance and safety plans. 

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of a district-wide Logic Framework for school social work services. 

  • Provide oversight and guidance for assessment, individual/group counseling, crisis response, family engagement, and advocacy efforts across school sites. 

  • Collaborate with school leaders to align social-emotional and behavioral interventions with academic instruction and district initiatives. 

  • Establish and sustain collaborative partnerships with community agencies, behavioral health providers, and interagency teams to expand support for students and families. 

  • Coordinate social work practicum/fieldwork placements with local colleges and universities, supporting the training and development of emerging professionals. 

  • Support the collection and analysis of service data to monitor outcomes, inform practice, and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal mandates. 

  • Oversee grant-funded initiatives related to student wellness, ensuring program fidelity, accurate reporting, and strategic use of resources. 

  • Interview, hire, assign, and supervise school social workers based on district needs, individual competencies, and best-fit practices. 

  • Provide coaching, case consultation, and structured opportunities for staff collaboration to promote best practices and continuous improvement. 

  • Provide professional development that supports school safety. 

  • Collaborate and align resources and supports to families through wrap around services. 


Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. 


 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college/university is required. 

  • Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP), LCSW is required. 

  • 5 years successful experience as a school social worker preferred, preferably in an urban educational setting. 

  • Experience supervising staff is preferred. 

  • Experience working in a community social service agency, clinical background and/or urban education history highly desirable/preferred. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, ability to communicate well with school personnel, employees, district office staff, families, and community members. 

  • Extensive knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rule and regulations. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. 

  • Ability to problem-solve, mediate, and muti-task. 

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups. 

  • Knowledge of outside agencies which offer services for students and families. 

  • Knowledge of evidenced based practices for behavior and social interventions. 

  • Highly organized and skilled at prioritization. 

  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality. 

  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance. 

  • Knowledge of Omaha Public School’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of social workers in achieving each of them. 


 


Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.


 


TravelTravel between school and central offic may be required.

  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.


Employee Punctuality and Appearance:



  • In order for the school system to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.

  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position. 


 


Terms of Employment:


 


This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.  


  


Terms of employment are contingent upon:  



  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.  

  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.  

  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.  

  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).  

  • Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
